Patience Pays off

Recently I had a special interaction with my son. My son had decided to be somewhat defiant and was at the young age of ten. In the past I might have felt perfectly justified in getting upset with him and maybe giving him a timeout. This time I was determined not to join him in his temper tirade. I took time to allow my own emotions to relax and become calm so we could talk. I had him look me in the eye and we had a good talk. I made sure that I kept my voice low. I told him that I was not going to yell at him or get upset in anyway. I expressed my own feelings through my tears. When I spoke I saw him crying also. I knew then that I had reached his heart. I am very grateful for the blessing and inspiration of handling the situation in a way my Heavenly Father might have done. If I had allowed my emotions to get out of control and become angry. I would not have had such a good interaction with my son. We were able to hug and had a great day. He wanted to talk with me for the rest of the day, nonstop.

Take time to connect with your children. It will make a big difference in their lives and your own.

Good parenting takes time and effort, but I promise you it will be worth it.
